RON VILLANUEVA SHOULD DROP OUT OF THE RACE FOR THE HOUSE OF DELEGATES FOR BLATANTLY BETRAYING THE PUBLIC TRUST.

Bill HaleyUncategorized

Updated May 21, 2017

June 5th, I added a new blog relating to this. Ron’s blatant violations of campaign finance laws and misuse of funds are on my site.

Over the last few years Ron Villanueva has exploited campaign money for his own personal gain.

This immoral act has tainted the reputation of the Villanueva campaign, the Republican Party, and the Commonwealth of Virginia. Ron Villanueva’s vague recording of his “overhead” allows him to direct donated money from his campaign to his private business, personal travel excursions, food, leisure and even checks directly to himself.

I am calling for Ron Villanueva to drop out of the race for the House of Delegates. His fiscal irresponsibility is proof he values his own personal agenda more than the wellbeing of our district. No one who betrays the trust of our community should hold public office.

Ron Villanueva, you must answer to the public! There is not an ethics board, so we must reply on the voters of the 21st district.

The following information is pulled from VPAP.org which gets its information directly from state reporting. This information came directly from Ron’s campaign.  There are hundreds of links below.  These numbers prove Ron Villanueva’s fiscal irresponsibility.

In the NON-ELECTION year of 2016 Ron Villanueva spent $47,969 on “overhead” costs for his campaign office and travel/meal. That is 24 times the median average of all 100 Delegates.  His $47,969 bill is also more than what 55 COMBINED delegates spent!

To add to the laundry list of sketchy activities, Ron Villanueva’s campaign office and private FOR-PROFIT business, Stratascorp Technologies, conveniently share the same door. Their addresses are the exact same! This makes mixing budgets between his campaign and person business easy.

Update. It has come to my attention that most of these links to www.VPAP.org now include the first three months of 2017, making the dollars figures not match.  It is not wrong, please just realize a few more months are included.  You can apply the filter to just include 2016 to have the numbers match.  While in VPAP, Click the 2016-2017 and set the end date to 2016.   However, Ron knew that I was calling him out on these issues many months ago.  He has not even attempted to adjust his behavior or reporting to follow the law.  This clearly shows his contempt of the voters by continuing the illegal, self-dealing and abusive actions listed below.  One big example is where Ron wrote himself a check for $1,200 which is clearly against the law.

Villanueva’s $14,164 of office supplies/equipment/computers is 63 times higher than the average delegate spends. That is more than 71 delegates spend combined! Mixing his campaign with his private business allows Ron Villanueva to spend his campaign money (over $12,209 from his campaign) to cover Stratascorp Technologies rent and utilities.

Ron Villanueva also managed to spend $14,920 on “travel and meal costs” in a non-election year. This is almost 70 times what the average delegate spends, and covers the budget of 69 combined delegates!  Half the delegates were under $215.

Ron Villanueva has recklessly exploited campaign donations for his own personal gain.
In one year, 90% of delegates use their “campaign cards” less than 21 times for travel/meal expenses. Ron Villanueva used his “campaign card” 356 times IN ONE YEAR.

He filled his own gas tank roughly 90 times in 2016, that’s an average of every 4 days! The 21st district is only 7 miles wide, which makes his spending grossly excessive.  Campaign law forbids using your campaign card to fill up your gas tank.  Rules on pages 28-29 of the Laws and Policies document

He also wrote 6 checks totaling $3,849 to himself and miscellaneous checks totaling $4,734 where Ron refused to state who they were for. This violates the rules and laws on page 28 http://www.elections.virginia.gov/Files/CandidatesAndPACs/LawsAndPolicies/CandidatesSummary.pdf

Below are links to the information I cited that you can use to verify the facts. I have compared Ron with the other 99 delegates to show his fiscal irresponsibility.

All these links going directly to the nonprofit Virginia Public Access Project VPAP.org

If you want the Virginia State board of election for any verification of actual reports, please click on the first half of 2016 and the last half of 2016 for Ron. It is easy to find all the other delegates in that website.

I am not claiming other delegates don’t have questions to answer, however, no one comes close to the impropriety of Ron Villanueva.

Travel/Meal/Office Rent/Utilities/Office Supplies/ equipment/computer/Phones/Internet/PDA’s

At $47,969 Ron is over $20,000 more than the next Delegate
24 times the median average for all 100 Delegates

Ron filled his gas tank around 90 times in the non-election year of 2016 totaling of $3,020.

The State Board of Elections instructs: “Reimbursements for mileage at the current state rate”.  Using a campaign debit card for gas in a personal vehicle clearly mixes personal and campaign funds and against the clearly stated law.  The vast majority of delegates have zero or very few ‘fill-ups’, whereas Ron had over 90.

Ron’s spending is not justified!

Ron wrote six checks from his campaign account to himself totaling $3,849!

The State Board of Election instructs: “The report must contain the full name of the entity to which the expenditure was paid”.  Entering “reimbursement” in the item or service column is not considered proper disclosure.  Mailing Address of Payee and Item or Service must also be documented on the report.

Ron’s blatant disregard for our commonwealth’s rules are shown below:

Please note the even $1,000 or both $500.  If it was truly reimbursements would it be these even dollar figures?  He needs to show receipts!

Ron is living large on the public’s campaign donations

I am not claiming that buying pizza for your volunteers before a walk or a phone banking session is wrong.  Some is certain justified, however everything within balance.  This clearly is an abuse and more so when done in a non-election year.
